The Right Leadership of being Entrepreneur
This week is a great learning experience for me about the importance of leadership and the kind of leadership that a successful entrepreneur needs to possess. In my reading, it mentioned that leadership is about capability, collaboration, and character. Among the three, the capability is the most important you can have. It is the capability to ask a question and hear the answer from the employees or the customer if the business is doing well.
In the speech of Carly Fiorina, former CEO of HP, in Leadership and Capability, she said that :
“Capability: you have to celebrate new ideas, take risks all the time, try new things. Because however good the answers you have had are, every person, every organization eventually reaches a time when the old answers aren't good enough anymore. And then the only thing that works is creativity and new ideas and risk-taking and innovation.
Capability is to keep learning, to learn something every day. “
A person that keeps learning, always progress. They adapt to changes and growth to meet the demands in our days. They increase their level of capability to cope up with the needs required from them.
The Lord’s way of leadership is different from most people’s interpretations of being a leader. The Lord explain it in the scripture when He said:
. . . Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.
But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. (Matt 20:25)
I call it a servant leadership. You lead them because you love and care for them. This kind of leadership is very powerful in leading the family and even to people that you work with.
Three Principle that I learn from this kind of leadership:
1. 1, Lead by example – The most powerful influence that you can give to people are the things that you do. The people that you lead will watch how you execute what you teach and they will learn and eventually, they will follow your example.
2. 2. Lead with Vision – One of the most important that leaders do is to help other people see the picture of the future. Leaders help people see and understand the value of what they are doing at this moment and how it has an impact on them.
3. 3. Lead with love – “People don’t care how much they know until they know how much you care” – Theodore Roosevelt. A good leader hopes for the success of his people. He cares for and nurtures them so that they can reach their full potential. He will lead them with love.
Possessing these three principles of leadership helps establish a good working environment towards success as an entrepreneur.
In one of the reading assignment in the class, we read hiring ethical people. People believe in doing what’s the right thing because it feels right. When the company is doing the right thing, you have more confidence in the people that lead the company. People patronize the product and services because they know that it meets the standards expected. Good leadership with ethical people working in the company promotes steady and regular customers that relevant to the success of the business.
